Graphic Novel: Csejte

I took a free course online about graphic novels. It was a wonderful experience, in which I learned a lot. Besides just doing papers on excerpts of comics (which I haven't written a paper in a long time), we also did a short graphic novel for the class. Mine was called Csejte, after the place where Elizabeth Báthory, the 1600's women who killed young girls for their blood to maintain her beauty. (True story)
I have a lot more to this story in my head and I would like to do something with it. I only had a week left to work on it so I had to cut it short and make it a cliffhanger kinda. The experience of working on this comic made me work out some of the issues with the story and hear feedback from around the world. I will more than likely redo this at some point, but I thought I should share what I did for the class here. Also, I don't know why, but everytime I do a graphic novel the title page is in another language.

Check out the story after the break.

Goals

So I found this drawing recently with my old 4H book. I was supposed to do a piece on what my goals were for the next 5 years back when I was a senior in High school. I guess I accomplished it.

Come Back Little Sheba : Secondary Characters

Here is the final installment of the Come Back Little Sheba

Turk is the boyfriend of Marie while she is at college. He is a javelin thrower and not the brightest.

He later poses for Marie so she can draw him, while he is in his javelin uniform.

Bruce is Marie's boyfriend from home. He is a rich and very business orientated.

The last character is Ed Anderson who is one of the AA men who comes to the rescue.

Come Back Little Sheba Costume Design: Marie

Marie is the young renter living in Lola and Doc's house. She is very young and free spirited. Her fashion is very up to date and she is reminiscent of a pin up girl.
Her first outfit is described as a pink nightgown and pink fuzzy pumps.

She has a couple flowy outfits throughout the play.

Her final outfit is her boldest and she is fully in bloom.

Come Back Little Sheba Costume Design : Doc

From the Come Back Little Sheba Costume Design I have the series of designs for the character Doc.  The play is set in the 1940's Midwest.

Doc is a man who is a recovering alcoholic, who lost everything business wise but has a small chiropractic practice. He is haunted by his past since his wife Lola keeps bringing it up. He regrets so much and just wants to forget everything.
He is very routine oriented and is very businessman like and formal. I have him costumed in a suit, which since he doesn't have much money he wears everyday.

He is later so stressed he turns back to his old habits of drinking. He is no longer the well put together and clean man.

The last scene Doc has been released from treatment at the hospital for his drinking spree. Here he is still broken and disheveled. He is now the weak and disorganized one in the marriage.

Come Back Little Sheba Costume Design : Lola

I designed for the play Come Back Little Sheba for my Costume Design final project.
There are three main characters: Lola, Doc, and Marie.

Lola is a tired old house wife stuck in the past and trying to just make it through the day. She really doesn't do much and is always looking for someone to distract her from doing work.
She starts out in a costume described as a lumpy kimono and dirty comfies.

She progressively gets put together throughout the play.

When she cooks for the young couple she is at her highest moment in the whole play.

Her last costume is the most structured and put together one, showing she now is the the strong one in the relationship.

Graphic Novel: Characters

So for inspirational design we have a graphic novel anthology we are making as a class. I'm planning on doing paper cut outs for my final design. I have my ideas sketched out and my characters designed. I decided to go a little odd this time.
I have 4 characters to fit the theme of strange companions.

Here's my four main characters. Kwait the flower, Hipopotam "Tam" the hippo, Ryba the anglerfish, and Automat "mat" the robot.

I had to alternatives of Tam in a flapper dress and evil version of kwait designed too. Then I got into the water colors.
Therefore I got distracted and made the following piece.

Illustration Friday: Fluid

So this week my class did Illustration Friday and the theme was fluid.
I decided with the theme I should try doing watercolor. This is my first water color attempt. Actually I used gouache and just watered it down to work more like a watercolor, and some water color pencils too.

Check out Diann Malcom's too she painted along with me.
